How To Wear Orange Without Looking Ridiculous

This is the part people worry about. Orange has a reputation.

Dark bottoms. Black, charcoal, dark olive, dark denim. The orange carries the outfit and everything else stays out of the way.

Avoid red and yellow next to it. Looks like a mistake. Navy and grey work fine. White sneakers are good but they’ll get dirty, so factor that in.

Layering: black jacket over the top is the easy answer. The orange shows at the collar and hem without taking over. Denim jacket works if it’s a dark wash. Olive jacket also works and looks more intentional than black if you want something different.

Care

Orange fades faster than most colors if you treat it wrong. Heat is the enemy.

Inside out. Cold water. Gentle cycle. Hot water will dull the orange faster than anything else. Once it fades it doesn’t look vintage, it looks washed out. Cold every time.

No bleach. No fabric softener. Softener leaves a coating that makes the fabric feel slick and slightly waxy. Skip it.

Air dry. Hang it or lay it flat somewhere with airflow. If you have to use a dryer, low heat only, and pull it out while it’s still slightly damp. High heat cracks prints and shrinks the body.

Fold for storage. Don’t hang heavy hoodies for months, shoulders stretch out. Keep it out of direct sunlight if it’s going in a closet for a season — sun fades orange faster than artificial light ever will.

Wash frequency: three or four wears between washes is fine unless it’s actually dirty. Overwashing dulls the color and ages the fabric.
